The Youngstown State men's golf team will continue its spring schedule on Saturday when it begins play in the Carpetbagger Classic hosted by Binghamton at Worthington Manor Golf Club in Urbana, Md.
The Penguins are coming off a 14th-place team finish in their spring season opener at the Daytona Beach Spring Invitational on March 7. Redshirt senior Cade Kreps was YSU's top finisher for the second time this season, finishing tied for 39th with a three-round score of 225 (78-72-75).
The tournament field at the Carpetbagger Classic will feature 13 other schools including Binghamton, Bryant, Canisius, Colgate, Cornell, Fairleigh Dickinson, Howard, Lehigh, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, Rhode Island, Robert Morris and Wagner.
Due to the weather forecast for Sunday, the teams will play 27 holes on Saturday and nine holes on Sunday in the two-day, 36-hole event. Saturday's opening round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. while play on Sunday is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. There will be no live scoring and results will be posted following the conclusion of play each day.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Kreps, Bryan Kordupel, Ryan Sam, Dean Austalosh and Jacob Sylak. In addition, Conner Stevens will be competing as an individual.
Kreps, Kordupel and Sam have competed in each of YSU's first six tournaments this season. Austalosh will be participating in his sixth event of the campaign while Sylak and Stevens will each be competing in their third tournament of the season.
