Elkhart, Ind - Led by Gavin Webb and Aleksa Radenovic's podium finishes, the Youngstown State men's swimming and diving program delivered an impressive performance at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship which concluded on Saturday.
Webb clocked a school-record time of 15:15.20 to place third in the 1650 free. He bested his previous record set at the Horizon League Championships by over four seconds. Along the way, he clocked a 9:09.52 in the 1000 free to finish runner-up in the event with another impressive school-record time. Webb also swam a 4:27.17 in the 500 free to place 16th as well as a 4:00.41 in the 400 IM to finish 29th.
Radenovic broke his own 200 fly school record with a time of 1:44.85 to finish runner-up. Â He also picked up a 15th-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 47.67 and a 23rd-place finish in the 50 fly, clocking a 21.90.
Three other Penguin swimmers earned individual top-30 finishes. Karan Raju clocked a 1:49.62 in the 200 fly to finish an impressive 19th. Soma Albert placed 23rd in the 200 back with a time of 1:48.08 while Gavin Redden clocked a 25.06 in the 100 free to pick up a 29th-place finish.
The Penguins finished top-25 in both the 400 and 800 free relays. The squad of Rares Druga, Darren Laing, Redden, and Wilson Cannon clocked a 3:00.72 for 24th in the 400 free relay while Raju, Radenovic, Jasper Liekens, and Webb were 22nd in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:45.53.
Overall, Youngstown State placed 21st out of 41 schools, finishing ahead of Miami (Ohio), South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, and Delaware among others. The Penguins picked up 147 points at the meet. The Queens University of Charlotte earned the victory with 674 points while Tennessee and Ohio State rounded out the top three, respectively.
