Murray, Ky. -- The Youngstown State softball team fell twice at the Racer Classic on Saturday at Racer Field.
The Penguins fell to Illinois State, 5-2, and Murray State, 2-0, and fall to 7-13Â overall.
In the opener against the Redbirds, Hailey Niederkohr, Hailey Roach and Taylor Truran each collected hits for the Penguins.
Youngstown State took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning after a sacrifice fly by Elyssa Imler that plated Avrey Schumacher, and an unearned run scored lby Ellie Hardman.
The Redbirds tied the game in the game in the bottom half of the second, took the lead in the bottom half of the third, and added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Against Murray State, the Penguins mustard just one hit, a single by Roach, and struck out 11 times.
Youngstown State hosts Purdue Fort Wayne in its home and Horizon League opener, Friday, March 17. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the YSU Softball Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.Â
