Youngstown State baseball players Trey Law and Travis Perry were each honored when the Horizon League announced its weekly awards on Tuesday. Law, a redshirt junior shortstop, was named Horizon League Co-Batter of the Week while Perry, a fifth-year senior right-hander, was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week.
Law earned the first league award of his career while Perry was named Pitcher of the Week for the third time in his career.
Law batted .556 and slugged .611 with 10 hits in 18 at bats over four games played at Memphis this past weekend. He also recorded one double, two RBIs, two runs scored, one walk, 11 total bases and a .579 on-base percentage. The Camp Hill, Pa., native began the weekend by going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored in YSU's 6-2 victory in the series opener on Friday. Law set a new career high with four hits by going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. He went 1-for-4 with a single in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Law finished the weekend by going 2-for-5 with a pair of base hits in the series finale on Sunday.
Perry allowed one run on two hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts over six innings to power Youngstown State to a 6-2 victory over Memphis in the series opener on Friday. Perry struck out the side in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for what would be one of his best outings in a Penguin uniform. The Oil City, Pa., native went on to retire eight straight batters between the first and third innings. He retired the side in order in the second, third and fifth innings. Perry recorded at least one strikeout in each of the six innings he pitched, and he registered multiple punch-outs in three different frames while earning his first victory of the season.
Youngstown State will continue its early-season road stretch on Friday when it begins a four-game series at Baylor. First pitch for Friday's series opener is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
