Men Set Relay Mark as Penguins Deliver Strong Opening Day at HL Championships

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs opened the Horizon League Championships with multiple strong performances at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.

Men's Results

The men's 800 free relay team of Aleksa Radenovic, Christian Taylor, Gavin Webb, and Karan Raju set a new school record en route to a fourth-place finish. They swam a time of 6:38.56 which bested the previous record by almost four seconds. Radenovic's split of 1:39.09 bested the 200 free school record by over a second.

In the men's three-meter dive, Brooks Adams, Cody Thill, and Zachary Lao advanced to the consolation finals. Adams finished 12th with a score of 248.80 after a personal-best mark of 265.60 in the prelims. Thill finished just behind Adams in 13th, scoring a 243.00. Lao earned a 15th-place finish with a score of 220.10.

In the 200 medley relay, the squad of Rares Druga, James Slessor, Radenovic, and Wilson Cannon earned a fifth-place finish. They clocked a time of 1:29.83, which is just three-tenths of a second away from the school record.

Following the first day of action, the Guins sit in fifth-place with 69 points.

Women's Results

The Penguin women delivered two strong relay performances that ended in fourth-place finishes. In the 800 free relay, Miriam Frass, Hailey Clark, Brooke Schuette, and Macy Wang clocked a 7:31.39, which is the second-fastest time in program history.

The 200 medley relay team of Anna Kozinska, Oliwia Kaniak, Allison Ramirez Romero, and Madelyn Mahoney delivered their best time of the season, swimming a 1:44.88. 

The Guins tallied 60 points across two events to head into the second day in fourth place, ahead of Cleveland State and Green Bay.

The second day of competition begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow with swimming prelims. Events taking place are the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, women's one-meter dive, and 200 free relay.
