Norfolk, Va. – The Youngstown State softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Norfolk State, 3-0, 5-3, on Tuesday afternoon at the NSU Softball Field.
The Penguins fall to 1-3 on the year while the Spartans improve to 3-1.
In the opener, freshman pitcher Madison Griffin struck out six in four innings pitched and allowed just three hits and one run.
The Penguins though collected just three hits, two from Sara Fessler and one by Hailey Niederkohr.
In game two, Niederkohr went 2-for-4 with a double and run batted in while Fessler and Conchetta Rinaldi each drove in a run.
Sophie Howell struck out seven in a complete-game effort.
Youngstown State takes on Lafayette, Saturday, Feb. 25, at the UMBC Tournament. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
