
Swimming and Diving Begin Highly Anticipated Horizon League Championships on Wednesday

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs look to make their mark on the four-day Horizon League Championships that begin on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and conclude on Saturday, Feb. 18. The league championships are set to be held at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.
Wednesday's events are set to kick off at 1 p.m. beginning with diving. Swimming events will follow at 5:30 p.m. The remaining three days will begin with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m. followed by diving prelims at 1 p.m on Thursday and Friday and 12:30 p.m on Saturday. Competition each day will wrap up with swimming and diving finals at 5:30 p.m. Penguins fans can watch a live broadcast of the events on ESPN Plus.
Junior Gavin Webb became the first YSU men's swimmer to win an event at the Horizon League Championships last season and is currently seeded first in the Horizon League in three events: the 500 free, 400 IM, and 1650 free.
Sophomore Aleksa Radenovic is seeded in the top three in three events including a number one ranking in the 200 fly by almost four seconds. He ranks second in both the 100 fly and 200 IM.
Outstanding freshman Miriam Frass will compete in the 200, 500, and 1650 free. She enters conference championships ranked in the top three in both the 500 and 1650 free. She is seeded eighth in the 200 free. Sophomore Olivia Kaniak ranks in the top 10 in all three events she is set to swim in: the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM.
Junior Crispy Barton is seeded in the top 10 in the 400 IM, 1650 free, and 200 breast including a second-place ranking in the 400 IM. Standout freshman James Slessor is ranked third in the 200 breast and rounds out the top-five swimmers in the 100 breast. Junior Soma Albert also ranks in the top five in two events: third in the 200 back and fifth in the 100 back.
Junior Brenden Reeves is ranked in the top seven in both the 200 and 400 IM, seeded sixth in the 400 IM and seventh in the 200 IM.
Other Penguin men seeded in the top 10 include Karan Raju (fifth, 200 fly), Gavin Redden (seventh, 100 free), Wilson Cannon (eighth, 100 fly), Dominic Bono (ninth, 400 IM), and Moritz Bayer (ninth, 100 breast).
Additional Penguins on the women's squad with top-10 seeds include Chiara Vetter (fifth, 100 breast), Jordan Truelsch (sixth, 200 back), Isabelle Hanson (seventh, 100 back), Anna Kozinska (eighth, 100 back), Hailey Clark (ninth, 1650 free), and Allison Ramirez Romero (ninth, 100 fly).
YSU also boasts impressive rankings on the diving front. In all four diving events scheduled to take place at the league championships, Youngstown State has multiple divers seeded in the top 10.
In the women's one- and three-meter dives, four Penguins are seeded in the top 10 led by Kayla Wrasman seeded third in the three-meter and fourth in the one-meter. Tess Weiskopf is seeded eighth in both events. Ellen Linscheid is ranked ninth in the one-meter and tenth in the three-meter while Dasha Toth is seeded ninth and the three-meter and tenth in the one-meter.
Three Penguin men are ranked in the top 10 in the one-meter dive led by Cody Thill at sixth. Thill is also ranked sixth in the three-meter. Zachary Lao is just behind, seeded seventh in both the one- and three-meter dives. Brooks Adams rounds out the top-10 seeds in the men's three-meter.
Ticket Information
Fans looking to attend the meet can purchase general admission tickets at the gate. To gain admission to all sessions, it costs $60 for adults and $45 for children. To catch a single day of action, fans can purchase tickets at $10 for adults and $7 for children. Youngstown State students receive free admission with their YSU I.D.
