The Youngstown State men's basketball team continues its four-game homestand when it hosts nearby Westminster, Monday Dec. 18, at Beeghly Center. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Youngstown, Ohio. The game will be broadcast on 570 WKBN and ESPN+.

The Penguins continue their homestand when they host Navy in their final non-conference game of the year, Thursday, Dec. 21. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Beeghly Center. 

Last Time Out
Youngstown State won for the fifth straight time with a 107-70 win over Bethany on Dec. 14. John Lovelace, Jr., led five players scoring in double figures with 23 points and nine rebounds. Brett Thompson had 15 points while Gabe Dynes posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Rush and EJ Farmer each scored 12 points.

Scouting Westminster
Westminster enters the game with an overall record of 6-5 and has won four of its last five games. The Titans are coming off a 67-63 win over Franciscan on Dec. 16.  Quincy Jones leads the Titans with 18.5 points per game while Trey DePietro is averaging 13.6 points per game. Reese Leone is in double figures with 13.5 points per game and Andrew Clark is averaging 10.8 points per contest. The Titans are averaging 75.0 points per game while allowing 76.9 points per contest.

Series vs. Westminster
This is the 54th meeting between Youngstown State and Westminster in a series that dates back to 1928-29. Westminster leads the all-time series, 29-24, but the Penguins have won the last seven. Westminster's last victory was in 1981. Youngstown State won the last meeting, 117-65, on Dec. 8, 2022, at Beeghly Center.

Youngstown State has been quite protective of its home court over the last four-plus seasons. The Penguins, who have won 13 straight regular-season home games and 15 of the last 17 overall, have won 55 games at Beeghly Center since the start of the 2019-20 season and own a 55-18 mark during that time. 

Thompson Turnin Up
Youngstown State fifth-year senior Brett Thompson has turned up his offensive production since being inserted into the starting lineup six games ago. Over the last five games, Thompson averaged 14 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists game. He shot 51.1 percent from the floor.

A Whole Lot of Love(lace)
Youngstown State sophomore John Lovelace, Jr., posted his third 20-point game of his career with 23 points over Bethany on Dec. 14. Over the last five games, Lovelace averaged 12.9 points per game and shot 59.1 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from 3-point range. He posted his second career 20-point game in the Penguins 94-69 win over Cleveland State. Lovelace scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting with two 3-pointers, and eight rebounds.
