Penguins Open 2023-24 Season at St. Bonaventure

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs will open the 2023-24 season against St. Bonaventure on Saturday at the Reilly Center Pool in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
Diving events will kick off the meet at 11 a.m. followed by swimming events at 2 p.m.
Women's Preview
The Penguin women return 27 members of last season's rosters and have added seven talented, new members headed into the 2023-24 season.
Newcomers to the women's squad are Amanda Denny, Eloise Fisher, Hanna Held, Madi Hindman, Alexa Omo, Izzy Rossi, Sydney VanderVelde, and Kate Wolff.
The women's team finished a program-record fourth at the 2022-23 Horizon League Championships, earning 431 points. They delivered 10 top-8 finishes in their impressive outing at the league meet. Now sophomore Miriam Frass found the podium in three different events. Frass became the first YSU woman since 2018 to finish runner-up at the conference championships, accomplishing the feat in two events: 500 and 1650 free. In addition, she found the podium in the 200 free.
The Penguins were selected fourth in the #HLWSD Preseason Poll.
Men's Preview
The men's team returns 23 student-athletes from last season's roster and adds 10 promising newcomers.
Newcomers to the team are Ethan Ferroni, Chase Fyffe, David Grant, Quinn Harman, Isaac Johnson, Joey Lundgren, Kyle McDade, Kyle Mizell, Jack Motl, and Joseph Wyatt.
During the 2022-23 season, the Penguins finished a program-best fourth at the Horizon League Championships, earning 426 points. At the league meet alone, the men's squad broke 11 school records and delivered five podium finishes including two champions. Now senior Gavin Webb earned back-to-back titles in the 1650 free while junior Aleksa Radenovic earned the conference title in the 200 fly. In addition to their victories, Webb found the podium in the 500 free while Radenovic did so in the 200 IM and 100 fly.
The Guins were slated fourth in the #HLMSD preseason poll.
