Davidson Named MVFC Offensive Player of the Week

Youngstown State quarterback Mitch Davidson was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for his career-best performance in the Penguins' 44-28 win over Missouri State last Saturday.
Davidson passed for a career-high 390 yards while tying a career best with four touchdown passes as the Penguins defeated the Bears on Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium. Davidson completed 26-of-33 passes and connected with three different players for scores. He had touchdown passes of 51, 20, 10 and two yards in the victory. His previous high was 332 which came earlier this year at UNI. That total ranks third in school history for single-game passing yardage. He has 11 touchdown passes in the last three games.
This season, Davidson has thrown for more than 300 yards in three games and now ranks tied for third in school history in career 300-yard passing games. Only Trenton Lykes and Denny Klembara have more during a YSU career. Davidson has completed 145-of-204 passes for a completion percentage of 71.1 percent, which ranks fifth in the FCS. He has 15 touchdowns and just three interceptions will amassing 1,915 yards passing. He is second in the FCS in passing efficiency at 171.3 trailing only South Dakota State's Mark Gronowski.
The last YSU quarterback to be named MVFC Offensive Player of the Week was Nate Mays on Nov. 24, 2019. Mays was honored after that game against Illinois State for returning from a major leg injury to take the final snap of his collegiate career on the contest's last play. Before than Ricky Davis earned the honor on Nov. 4, 2017.
The Guins are back in action on Saturday when they visit Indiana State on Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.
