The Youngstown State volleyball team suffered a disappointing five-set loss at Robert Morris on Friday. The set scores at the UPMC Events Center were 25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 22-25, 12-15.
The Penguins finished the first half of Horizon League play with a 2-7 mark against the conference, and they are 7-13 overall. Robert Morris improved to 2-7 with the victory.
Jazmin Vergara had a team-high 18 kills to go along with 15 digs to collect a double-double, and Abbie Householder had 17 of each for a double-double. Maria Insana had a career-high 23 digs in her first career start at libero, and Dayan Malave had a career-best 18 kills while hitting .500.
Natalie Stepanovich had 24 kills and 22 digs to lead Robert Morris, which overcame a 22-18 deficit in the fourth set to extend the match.
Youngstown State will begin its second tour of the Horizon League on Tuesday by visiting Wright State at 6 p.m.
