Penguins Return to Action Against Duquesne and Niagara on Friday and Saturday

The Youngstown State men's and women's diving programs will host Duquesne and Niagara in the Beeghly Natatorium while the swimming programs will head to Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday at the Towers Pool where the women will compete against the Dukes and Purple Eagles, and the men will take on Niagara.
The home diving meet is scheduled for 1 p.m on Friday, and the swim meet hosted by Duquesne is set to begin at 1:30 p.m on Saturday.
The men previously faced Niagara on October 29 this season, where the Guins earned the victory, 173.5 to 126.5. Niagara defeated the YSU women, 167 to 133.
Last Time Out
The men's and women's swimming programs are coming off of a noteworthy performance at the CSCAA Open Water Championship on December 17.
Freshman Miriam Frass clocked a 58:23.68 in her incredible top-5 performance out of a talented, national field of 110 swimmers in the women's 5k. With her remarkable fourth-place finish, she qualified for nationals, earning a spot in the USA Swimming 5k Open Water Championships.
For the men, Gavin Webb led the Guins finishing eighth out of 83 competitors with an impressive 5k time of 55:55.00. Overall, the men finished seventh out of 15 teams with all five Penguins placing in the top 51.
Crispy Barton was the next Penguin to finish in the men's 5k, clocking a time of 57:36.68 to finish 23rd. Brenden Reeves swam a time of 59:54.91 to place 45th.
Dominic Bono and Christian Taylor finished back-to-back at 50th and 51st, respectively. Bono clocked a 1:00:26.26 while Taylor finished with a time of 1:00:26.84.
In the women's 5k, Hailey Clark and Brooke Schuette finished 98th and 99th, respectively. Clark clocked a 1:06:39.57 while Schuette finished with a time of 1:06:40.19
Frass and Webb earned Horizon League Swimmers of the Week honors following their incredible performance at the meet.
The divers were last in action at the Miami (OH) Invitational that concluded on December 3 with the swimming squad.
At the meet, freshman Zachary Lao broke his own school record in the platform dive, scoring a 228.70. Brooks Adams and Cody Thill finished back-to-back in both the one- and three-meter dives. Thill finished 11th in the three-meter with a score of 235.95 while Adams finished 12th, scoring a 221.95. In the one-meter, Adams was 12th with a score of 235.35 while Thill finished 13th, scoring a 231.35.
Kayla Wrasman placed first in the B final of the women's three-meter dive, finishing ninth overall with a score of 231.10. Tess Weiskopf was 14th in the event, scoring a 207.75. Wrasman was also 11th in the one-meter dive with a score of 230.60.
Following the competition, Wrasman and Thill were named the Horizon League Divers of the Week.

Up Next
The Penguins will compete against conference foes in their next meet, heading to Rochester, Mich. to take on Horizon League members Oakland and IUPUI in a two-day clash beginning on Friday, Jan. 13.
Friday events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., and competition will continue at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Oakland Aquatic Center.
