Youngstown State cross country runners Molly Hopple and Michael Formica were selected as the Nike Horizon League Freshmen Runners of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

In the first collegiate race of her career, Hopple clocked a 23:10.8 in the women's 6k at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational among a field of Power 5/Big 10/Big East/ACC Top 25 Nationally Ranked runners. Her time ranks in the top-five 6k times for an opening freshman in YSU history.

Formica clocked a 27:45.1 in the 5.2 mile at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational to place 68th out of a Power 5/Big 10/Big East/ACC Top 25 Nationally Ranked Field of 92 runners. His 8k split was 26:40.
