
Men's Golf to Begin Play at Horizon League Championships on Sunday

The Youngstown State men's golf team will begin play at the Horizon League Championships on Sunday at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
The event will take place at Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon course as the teams will play 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to determine the conference champion. The course will play approximately 6,765 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
The men's field will feature nine other teams including Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, Robert Morris and Wright State.
The Penguins, who are seeded fifth, will tee off beginning at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday. Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Kevin Scherr, Ken Keller, Bryan Kordupel, Zack Ford and Cole Christman. In addition, Cade Kreps will be available as a possible substitution.

- Christman – 8:20 a.m.
- Ford – 8:30 a.m.
- Kordupel – 8:40 a.m.
- Keller – 8:50 a.m.
- Scherr – 9:00 a.m.
Scherr has competed in all 11 tournaments and 29 rounds this season. He is averaging a team-best 73.1 strokes per round with a low round of 68. The senior has earned five top-10 finishes and six top-15 finishes while being YSU's top finisher on four occasions. The Nazareth, Pa., native will be competing at the Horizon League Championships for the fourth time in his career. He was YSU's top finisher at the event as a freshman in 2018 when he placed sixth with a three-round score of 224 (73-75-76). Scherr also tied for 20th at the event as a sophomore in 2019 with a three-round 230 (77-82-71). Most recently, Scherr tied for 31st with a three-round 235 (77-80-78) at the league meet last season.
Keller has participated in all 11 tournaments and 29 rounds this season. He ranks third on the team with a 74.3 strokes-per-round average while carding a low round of 69. The Youngstown, Ohio, native has earned four top-10 finishes and six top-15 finishes while being YSU's top finisher on three occasions. The fifth-year senior will be competing at the Horizon League Championships for the fourth time in his career. Keller was YSU's top finisher at the event as a sophomore in 2019 when he finished sixth with a three-round 222 (77-72-73). Most recently, he tied for 18th with a three-round 227 (73-79-75) to lead the Penguins at last year's championships.
Kordupel has competed in all 11 tournaments and 29 rounds this season. He ranks second on the team with a career-best 73.7 strokes-per-round average while recording a low round of 68. The Boardman, Ohio, native has earned a pair of top-10 finishes and seven top-25 finishes while being YSU's top finisher on three occasions. The senior will be competing at the Horizon League Championships for the second time in his career. Kordupel tied for 38th with a three-round score of 239 (78-76-85) at the 2021 Horizon League Championships.
Ford has participated in eight tournaments and 21 rounds this season. The senior is averaging 76.4 strokes per round with a career-low round of 68. The Cochranton, Pa., native has earned one top-10 finish and two top-25 finishes. Ford will be competing at the Horizon League Championships for the second time in his career. He placed ninth at the event as a sophomore in 2019 with a three-round score of 224 (79-71-74).
Christman has competed in all 11 tournaments and 29 rounds this season. The junior is averaging a career-best 74.7 strokes per round with a career-low round of 67. The Boardman, Ohio, native has earned two top-10 finishes and six top-20 finishes. Christman will be competing at the league meet for the second time is his career. He finished tied for 40th at the event last season with a three-round total of 240 (79-78-83).
Kreps has competed in four tournaments and 10 rounds this season. The junior is averaging 77.3 strokes per round with a low round of 73. Kreps' best finish of the campaign came when he tied for 24th at the Towson Fall Invitational with a three-round score of 226 (75-78-73).
Youngstown State finished eighth as a team at the Horizon League Championships last season. The program's best finish at the event was in 2006 when the Penguins were second. YSU also placed third in 2019, 2014, 2011, 2010 and 2008. Oakland is the defending champion and top seed after winning the 2021 championship.
The NCAA Regionals are May 16-18 at six sites. Host schools for the regionals include Texas A&M, Ohio State, Yale, Florida Atlantic, Pacific and Alabama.
