Box Score The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team beat Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan for the first time in program history on Monday afternoon at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex in Mount Pleasant, Mich., by an 11-10 margin.
This victory marks a three-game winning streak on the road for the Penguins after their impressive overtime victory against Detroit Mercy on Saturday. The Guins improve to 8-7 overall and 6-2 in the MAC, while the Chippewas fall to 8-7 overall with a 6-2 conference record. YSU never trailed in the contest, just 16 days after losing by nine at home to CMU.
Ali Korin led all scorers with five goals on nine total shots, which marks her seventh-consecutive game with at least three goals scored. Natalia Calandra-Ryan was the second-leading scorer, netting four goals across seven shots.
Calandra-Ryan found the back of the net for the 50th time this season with an assist from Abby Yesko with 9:01 left to play in the first quarter.
Shannyn Cullen and Erin Clark each accounted for a goal in the Penguins' victory.
Savannah Clarke had another impressive outing, earning 10 saves on 20 CMU shots-on-goal.
Maggie Diebold and Hannah Potter highlighted the Chippewas' scoring effort with Diebold's three scores and Potter's two.
To start the game, YSU went on a 3-0 scoring run with Korin scoring on her first shot of the game and Calandra-Ryan finding the back of the net twice in under four minutes of play.
CMU answered with a 3-0 scoring run of its own to tie the game 3-3 with 10:31 remaining in the half.
Korin found the back of the net for the Penguins two more times before halftime. YSU finished the first half with a one-goal lead, 5-4.
Calandra-Ryan came out swinging in the third quarter, connecting on two-out-of-three shots in just under a minute of play, increasing the Penguins' lead to 7-4 with 11:49 left to play in the third quarter.
CMU scored three unanswered goals to tie the game before Cullen found the back of the net on an assist from Tristen Chang. Cullen's goal came with 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give the Penguins back the lead, 8-7, heading into the final quarter of the game.
On a free-position shot with 10:32 to play in the game, Clark connected with the net, scoring her 30th goal of the season. Korin scored her 40th goal of the season with 6:55 to play in the game giving the Penguins a two-goal lead heading into the final minutes.
With 5:45 remaining in the matchup, Korin increased the Penguins' lead to 11-8 with her fifth goal of the game. YSU was able to hold off a comeback attempt by the Chippewas after two CMU goals with under a minute remaining to win the game 11-10.

The Penguins return home after a three-game road stretch to host Kent State on Saturday at Farmers National Bank Field. First draw is set for 1 p.m. The contest is Senior Day for the program as they will honor seniors Savannah Clarke and Ali Korin.
YSU bested Kent State in their first meeting of the season on March 17 in an exciting victory, 21-20, at Dix Stadium.
