
Scherr Leads Penguins to Fourth-Place Finish at Wright State Invitational

Kevin Scherr tied for fifth to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a fourth-place finish on Monday in the Wright State Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio.
The Penguins finished tied for fourth with a two-round team score of 598. YSU posted a 297 in the opening round before recording a 301 in the second session. Monday's third and final round was cancelled due to inclement weather in the Springboro area.
Scherr finished tied for fifth with a two-round score of 146 (73-73) to earn his fifth top-10 finish of the season. The senior's two-over-par 73 in the first round featured 12 pars and a pair of birdies as made par or better on 11 of his final 13 holes. The Nazareth, Pa., native fired an even-par 36 on the front nine during the opening round. Scherr's second-round 73 included 10 pars and three birdies as he carded a one-under-par 35 on the front nine.
Ken Keller finished tied for 13th with a two-round 149 (71-78) to collect his sixth top-15 finish of the campaign. The senior's even-par 71 in the first round featured 10 pars and four birdies as he made par or better on 11 of his first 12 holes. The Youngstown, Ohio, native fired a one-under-par 35 on the front nine during the opening round. Keller's final-round 78 included eight pars and two birdies as he shot an even-par 36 on the front nine.
Bryan Kordupel placed 24th with a two-round total of 152 (77-75). The senior's first-round 77 featured 11 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 7 as he made par or better on 10 of his first 12 holes. Kordupel's second-round 75 saw him make nine pars and three birdies as he fired a one-under-par 34 on the back nine.
Cole Christman tied for 40th with a two-round score of 156 (80-76). The junior's first-round 80 featured 10 pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 4 as he shot a one-over-par 37 on the front nine. Christman's second-round 76 included six pars and four birdies as he carded a one-over-par 36 on the back nine.
Zack Ford also tied for 40th with a two-round 156 (79-77). The senior's opening-round 79 featured 10 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 17 as he made par or better on eight of his final 11 holes. Ford's final-round 77 included 13 pars as he made par on nine of his final 11 holes.
Cade Kreps concluded the event with a two-round 158 (76-82) to finish tied for 52nd. The junior's first-round 76 featured nine pars and two birdies as he shot a two-over-par 37 on the back nine. Kreps' final-round 82 saw him card eight pars.
Wright State won the tournament title by 17 strokes with a two-round team total of 575. Valparaiso finished second with a 592 while IUPUI placed third with a 597. YSU tied for fourth place with Ohio and Robert Morris. Wright State's Davis Root earned medalist honors by two strokes with a two-round 142 (72-70).
Youngstown State will now turn its attention to the Horizon League Championships, which will take place April 24-26 at Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon Course in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
