YSU Uses Singles Surge To Knock Off IUPUI

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team defeated IUPUI 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the IUPUI Tennis Courts to remain unbeaten in Horizon League action.
With the win, YSU improves to 9-8 overall and 3-0 in Horizon League contests while the Jaguars fall to 2-17 and 0-4.
Down to five players, IUPUI picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by scores of 7-5 to take an early lead in the match.
However, the Penguins used strong play in singles to pick up their fourth straight win and second of the weekend. IUPUI defaulted at No. 6 tying the match. The Guins then won four singles contests in straight sets in the victory. In the four wins, YSU dropped just 11 games.
At No. 1, Cecilia Rosas defeated Christina Stankovic by a 6-1, 6-4 margin. At No. 3, Julia Marko cruised to an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win against Sarah Lounsbury. In action at No. 4, Elisa Rigazio picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win and at No. 5, Jessica Stanmore won 6-2, 6-0.
IUPUI earned a straight set win at No. 2 for the final margin.
YSU closes out the regular season campaign with three big home matches. The Guins are next in action on Friday when they play host to UIC at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
