Guins Have Solid Performance in 5-2 Win Over UIC

The Youngstown State women's tennis team beat UIC 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins remain a perfect 4-0 in Horizon League play while improving to 10-8 overall. The Flames drop to 13-4 and 3-1 while the loss to YSU halted their nine-match winning streak.
YSU took advantage of a short-handed UIC squad to jump out to an early lead.
In doubles, the Guins needed one win to claim the point and earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1 behind a strong effort by Cecilia Rosas and Julia Marko.
After UIC defaulted at No. 6 singles, the Guins built a 3-0 lead when Marko won her match 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
The Flames fought back by winning the next two contests, but YSU won the final two contests in three sets for the final margin.
At No. 1, Rosas picked up a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Tamara Malazonia to clinch the win for YSU. In the longest match of the contest, Lili Minich won her contest at No. 5 singles by a score of 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-4.
YSU returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Milwaukee. First serve against the Panthers is set for 3 p.m. at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
