Box Score The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of its Mid-American Conference slate, falling to Robert Morris on Wednesday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field, 18-7.
The Penguins drop to a 5-5 overall record on the season, owning a 3-1 record in conference play, while the Colonials improve to 5-5 and unblemished 5-0 in the league.
For the second-consecutive game, Ali Korin tied for a game-high four goals on seven total shots to lead the offensive charge for YSU. The fifth-year graduate transfer went 2-for-3 from the free position line, scooping a lone ground ball and a coming down with a draw control.
Natalie Calandra-Ryan, for the 10th-straight contest, logged a multi-goal outing with a pair of goals on scored on the afternoon across 10 shots. The Auburn, N.Y., native added two caused turnovers and with a lone draw control, upped her team-leading mark to 50 on the season.
In the cage, fifth-year goalkeeper Savannah Clarke tallied a season-best 17 saves across a barrage of 35 RMU shots, while picking-up a sole ground ball. Clarke's save total acts as the second-most saves in a single game during the program's two-year history.
Four Colonials reached double-digit goals during the contest, including Colleen Tifft who tied for a game-high four goals scored on eight shots.
A four-goal opening quarter by the Colonials was split at the 8:30 mark by Korin's first-of-four unassisted goals during the contest.
After a 4-0 scoring run by RMU to begin the second, Korin found a seam in the Colonials defense and found the back of the net at the 9:39 point to bring the score to 8-2. Following a goal by Robert Morris' Irwin, the Penguins were able to string a pair of goals together at the 4:13 and 2:53 marks by Lauren Ottensmeyer and Calandra-Ryan to trail by a five-goal margin, 9-4, heading into the break.
Out of the half, the Colonials put together their second four-goal scoring run of the contest to take a commanding 13-4 lead over the Penguins. YSU was able to outscore RMU 2-1 in the final 6:20 of the third quarter following goals by Korin and Calandra-Ryan, but faced a 14-6 disadvantage heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth, the Colonials outscored the Penguins 4-1, scoring at least four goals across all four quarters of the contest. YSU's lone score of the period by Korin came with 7:19 remaining in regulation.
