Bowling Wins Four Matches to Open Mid-Winter Invitational

The Youngstown State bowling team won its first four matches of the day and picked up two victories over ranked teams on Friday at the Mid-Winter Invitational. The tournament is being hosted by Arkansas State at the Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
The Penguins totaled 4,988 pins and averaged 199.5 over their 25 Baker games as they went 4-1 in head-to-head matches, and Youngstown State is 10th in the team standings
"I thought we bowled extremely well today. Outside of a few missed spares, the ladies executed at a very high level and made clutch shots all day long," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "With fewer pocket splits and more cooperation from the pins, I can see us making a solid run this weekend. After a great day of work, we are looking forward to a fun evening in Jonesboro."
Youngstown State began the day with a 1,026-740 win over Alabama A&M as it reached 200 four times, and the Penguins followed that with their highest total of the day in a 1,043-1,013 win over #20 Lewis. YSU strung seven strikes together in the fifth game to finish with a 248 and hold off the Flyers.
YSU's second top-25 win came in its third match as it edged 19th-ranked Sacred Heart 905-900 on a tough pair of lanes, and the Penguins improved to 4-0 with a 981-921 win over Alabama State. Youngstown State got back over 1,000 in its final match at 1,033, but #5 Louisiana Tech posted a 1,104.
