Box Score PITTSBURGH, Penn. – The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team fell 19-15 to non-conference opponent Duquesne at Rooney Field Monday, suffering the program's first loss of the 2022 season slate.
Three Penguins reached hat-trick status, led by Natalie Calandra-Ryan who set a new program record for most goals scored in a single game with six in her eight-shot outing. The Auburn, N.Y. native also picked-up two ground balls and added a team-high pair of assists to her impressive stat line.
Sydney Bumstead tallied her second three-goal appearance in as many career games, while Erin Clark also netted a trio of goals to bring her season total to five. Jordan Miller (2) and Lauren Ottensmeyer (1) act as the other Penguins that contributed to the 15-goal mark. YSU accumulated 27 shots on goal in the game.
Making just her second appearance in goal for YSU, Savannah Clarke tallied a game-high 12 saves on 37 shots faced during a full 60-minute outing. Clarke also scooped a ground ball.
King, Rodriguez-Shaw and St. Clair combined to score 12 of Duquesne's 19 goals, scoring four apiece.
The Dukes opened the contest scoring four unanswered goals prior to S. Bumstead netting the first of her three-goal outing at the 8:23 mark of the first quarter to break the YSU scoreless spell.
The two teams would trade goals into the second quarter of play, but a four-minute, five-goal rally by Duquesne beginning at the 14:25 point would give the Dukes a nine-goal advantage and their largest lead of the contest, 12-3. YSU would answer with a 3-1 scoring run of its own following a trio of unassisted goals and head into the halftime locker room trailing 13-6.
Trailing by eight goals heading into the final quarter of play, YSU netted seven goals during the final 15 minutes of action from Rooney Field, fueled by four S. Bumstead scores. However, back-to-back scores by Duquesne's King at the 9:08 and 8:21 marks put the comeback bid out of reach.
