Penguins Return to Action at NCAA Great Lakes Regionals

The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country programs will return to action for the first time since their incredible outing at the Horizon League Championships. They will head to Terre Haute, Ind. for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Friday.
The women's 6k is set to begin at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 10k at 11 a.m.
The men's team has been ranked in the top 15 teams in the Great Lakes Region for most of the 2022 season, ranked as high as 12th.

Last Time Out
The last time the Penguin men were on the line, they earned the title of Horizon League Champions. In the women's race, Morgan Cole became the first woman in YSU history to be an individual Horizon League cross country champion.
Cole finished 30 seconds ahead of the competition with a 6k time of 21:25.5 in her victory.
The men finished three in the top five in their incredible performance at conference, earning the title for the first time since 2018. Senior Chase Easterling led the Penguins with a runner-up performance, clocking a 24:45.3 in the men's 8k, just over a second behind the winner from Oakland, Yami Albrecht. Junior Ryan Meadows was just behind Easterling, finishing third with a time of 24:46.7. Junior Hunter Christopher was less than a second behind Meadows, running a 24:47.1 for fourth place.
Junior Tyler Clark also finished in the top 10, clocking a 25:12.4 to finish ninth. Junior Ty Coon rounded out the scoring bunch in 11th place with a time of 25:21.3. After, sophomore Keegan Barnette finished 16th, running a time of 25:34.4. The next Penguin finisher was sophomore Thomas Caputo in 18th with a time of 25:43.6. The men finished with 29 points overall, 25 points ahead of the runner-up, IUPUI.
In the women's 6k, sophomore Carly Hall finished in the top top 10 and was the next Penguin to cross the line after Cole. She ran a time of 22:16.8 to finish eighth. Senior Mackenzie Scott clocked a 22:51.3 en route to a 21st-place performance. Junior Aiamyia Dudley finished in 28th place with a time of 23:10.2. Freshman Molly Hopple rounded out the scoring bunch for the women, clocking a 23:11.16.
Junior Maria Dellimuti was the next Guin to cross the line in 41st, clocking a 23:56.4. Just behind Dellimuti was sophomore Alayna Cuevas finishing 42nd with a time of 23:56.6.
Overall, the women placed third in the Horizon League with 87 points, just one point behind the runner-up, Oakland, with 86. Milwaukee finished first as a team with 47 points.

Qualifiers from Regionals will head to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla. at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course. The women's 6k will begin at 9:20 a.m. followed by the men's 10k at 10:10 a.m.
