Youngstown State student-athletes Morgan Cole and Ryan Meadows were named to the Horizon League Cross Country All-Academic Team while Chase Easterling and Beau Gorby were named All-Academic Honorable Mentions, the league announced on Thursday.
Cole is now a three-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team, earning the honor in each of her last three seasons. She maintains a 3.96 grade-point average as a senior nursing student. She is a five-time President's List member and a six-time Dean's List member. Cole delivers an impressive performance in the classroom while also being a top competitor in the league. She is the 2022 #HLXC Women's 6k Champion, winning with a time of 21:25.5. Cole is the first woman in YSU history to accomplish this feat. She is one of five women all-time in the Horizon League to be named First-Team All-League four times. She was also named #HLXC Runner of the Week three times in 2022.
Meadows, a junior journalism major, maintains a 3.67 grade-point average. He was also a member of the 2021 Horizon League All-Academic Team. Meadows is a three-time Dean's List member and has been named to the President's List. He placed third at the #HLXC Men's 8k Championship with a time of 24:46.7 and was named First-Team All-League. Another notable performance for Meadows was his 15th-place finish in the 5-mile Gold Race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, clocking a 24:46.4.
Easterling has maintained a 3.35 grade-point average as a senior exercise science student. He is a three-time Dean's List member. Easterling finished runner-up at the 2022 #HLXC Men's 8k Championship, clocking a 24:45.3. At the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals, he broke the YSU 10k record, clocking a 30:54.0 to finish 38th. He is a two-time First-Team All-League selection and the 2020 #HLXC Men's 8k Champion. Easterling had an incredible performance in the 5-mile Gold Race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, finishing fourth with a time of 24:17.6 and leading his team to a first-place overall finish at the race for the first time in program history.
Gorby, a sophomore business student, carries a 4.0 grade-point average. He placed 47th at the #HLXC Men's 8k Championship with a time of 26:33.5. Gorby was named #HLXC Freshman Runner of the Week on Sept. 27.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
