Youngstown State defensive end Dylan Wudke was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Defensive Player of the Week following his impressive performance in the Penguins' 45-24 win over South Dakota yesterday at Stambaugh Stadium.
Wudke had five solo stops and two sacks in the victory as the defensive unit limited the Coyotes to just 56 yards rushing on 30 carries.
Late in the second quarter, Wudke's sack, fumble and fumble recovery at the USD 44-yard line with 2:49 left help set up the knockout blow in the contest as the Guins scored with just 19 seconds left in the half and take aa 38-10 lead.
This season, Wudke has 31 total tackles, including team-leading totals in TFLs (11) and sacks (five). He also leads the Penguins in forced fumbles with two.
Other MVFC Players of the Week following Saturday's action were Southern Illinois QB Nic Baker (offense), Missouri State placekicker Jose Pizano (special teams) and UNI's Desmond Hutson (Newcomer).
The Penguins (5-3, 3-2) head to Illinois State for a key MVFC contest against the Redbirds. Kickoff at Hancock Stadium is set for 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
