Cote Helps Bowling Move Up Two Spots at PVAMU Invitational

Freshman Jade Cote topped 215 in all five of her individual games, and the Youngstown State bowling team moved up two positions in the team standings during Saturday's traditional round at the PVAMU Invitational. The tournament is being held at the ITRC in Arlington, Texas.
The Penguins entered the day in eighth place, and they had a nearly identical total pinfall from Friday's Baker round to move up to sixth. With one more qualifying match on tap for Sunday morning, YSU is within striking distance of a top-four seed as it trails fourth-place McKendree by 99 pins.
"I love being on the road with this amazing group. We are working hard every day and elevating," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "There are lots of positives to take away from today and lots of things to address moving forward. We've put ourselves in position heading into tomorrow. It's now up to us to make the necessary adjustments. With as resilient as these amazing young ladies are, I can see us doing great things tomorrow."
After an 0-5 head-to-head record on Friday that was worse than what YSU's scores would normally indicate, Youngstown State went 3-2 on Saturday. The Penguins began the morning with a 1,064-912 victory over Prairie View A&M, and they followed that with an impressive 1,114-952 win over No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson. The 1,114 combined pinfall from Cote, Kirsten Moore, Lyndsay Ennis, Ellie Drescher and Emma Wrenn was the sixth-best traditional match total in program history.
YSU lost its next two matches, falling 1,005-936 to No. 4 North Carolina A&T and 922-916 to No. 13 Tulane before ending the round with a 954-926 win over No. 19 Sacred Heart.
With one more traditional game left on Sunday, Cote sits third in total pinfall at 1,125. She is one pin behind Vanderbilt's Mabel Cummins and 35 behind North Carolina A&T's Lauren Tomaszewski. Cote was consistent throughout her set, bowling games of 222, 224, 227, 236 and 216. Ennis is 12th in total pinfall at 1,058, and Moore is 16th with a 1,041. Ennis began the day with a career-high 268 game, and Moore started with a 256 and a career-best 264 in her first two games.
The Penguins will take on No. 3 Nebraska to conclude traditional play on Sunday at 9:25 a.m. Eastern. The 12 teams in the tournament will then be seeded based on total pinfall from the 11 qualifying matches for a pair of best-of-seven Baker matches to determine the final placings.
