Women's Lacrosse Falls to Robert Morris, 17-7

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought contest to Robert Morris Saturday, April 3, falling 17-7 at Joe Walton Stadium.

The Colonials (8-2, 4-0 MAC) came into the contest sitting atop the Mid-American Conference standings.

The Penguins' offensive attack was highlighted by Lauren Ottensmeyer, who netted a team-high three first-half goals on seven shots on the afternoon. Her outing brings her season goal total to a team-best 11 scores.

Four Penguins (Aryss Lindsey, Abby Yesko, Jocelyn Fike, Callie Vaudry) tallied solo goals on the afternoon en route to the team's seven-goal outing.

Aryss Lindsay and Jordan Miller led YSU in the ground balls, each grabbing four apiece. Taylor Jones also had a multiple ground ball day, notching three. Ultimately the Penguins were outgained in the ground ball battle 42-19.

YSU tallied a season-high 13 draw controls during the contest, led by Erin Clark who tallied five. Jordan Miller (3), Emma Carter (2) and Aryss Lindsey (2) also posted multiple draw control outings.

In the cage, Elicia Wells added another 60-minute stint on the season, tabbing a game-high 12 saves on 29 Colonials' shots on goal.

Following falling into a 1-0 deficit to the begin the game, YSU evened the scoreboard at one apiece at the 23:02 mark in the first half after Lauren Ottensmeyer scored the first of her two goals scored off free-position attempts.

The Colonials surged to a 7-0 run, taking an 8-1 lead over the Penguins before Ottensmeyer scored for the second time on the day with 9:26 remaining in the first. Just 90 ticks later, Ottensmeyer cashed in on her final score of the day off another free position shot.

After a three minute scoring draught by both squads, Jocelyn Fike found the back of the net, scoring her third goal of the season and bringing the RMU advantage to five.

The Colonials would end the half on a 2-0 run, scoring twice in the final thirty seconds of the first half to take an 11-4 lead into the locker room.

After two Robert Morris goals to open the second half of play, Abby Yesko added her second score of the 2021 campaign of a free position attempt at the 23:22 mark.

YSU added its sixth goal of the game on a man-up score by Aryss Lindsey with 17:40 on the clock and 14-6 on the scoreboard in favor of the Colonials.

On an assist by Erin Clark and with 5:14 left in the second half, Callie Vaudry scored the final goal in the contest by either team.

Youngstown State is back in action April 9 against Akron (4-5, 1-3 MAC) at Farmers National Bank Field. In the first clash of the season between the two teams, the Zips edged the Guins in back-and-forth battle, 12-11. First draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.
