Box Score KENT, Ohio – The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team earned the program's second win on a record 23 goals scored Sunday, beating in-state rival Kent State 23-20 at Dix Stadium.
With the victory, YSU (2-6, 2-6 MAC) splits the two-game season series with Kent State, each winning one game apiece.
Eight Penguins contributed to the school-record 23 scores in the contest, all notching multi-goal performances.
Erin Clark led all YSU scorers, tying a program-best five goals scored in a single game on nine shots on goal. Adding to her impressive performance, Clark tallied a team-high and career-best four assists in the game, accumulating nine total points on the afternoon. Clark also tabbed a team-high three ground balls. Defensively, Clark posted a team-high three caused turnovers.
Behind Clark, Aryss Lindsey found the back of the net four times – a career-high. Emma Carter and Callie Vaudry each finished their 60-minute outings with a hat trick of goals scored. For Vaudry, it was her third three-goal outing of the season. For Carter, it ties a career-best. Four Penguins finished the game netting two scores on the day (Tristen Chang, Abby Yesko, Jordan Miller, Taylor Jones). Miller also added a career-best two assists.
Defensively, senior captain and goalkeeper Elicia Wells tallied a season-best 19 saves on Kent State's 39 shots on goal during her 60-minute performance in the cage.
Youngstown State scored early and often during the contest at Dix Stadium, taking the halftime advantage over the Golden Flashes, 12-10. The Penguins then scored on 11 of their 15 second-half shots on goal to clinch the victory. YSU capitalized on its free-position attempts throughout the contest, finding the net 11-of-17 times.
Following an opening 3-0 deficit, the Penguins netted back-to-back goals by Vaudry and Clark at the 21: 49 mark to claw into the Golden Flashes' lead. A goal by Taylor Jones (17:55) separated a five-goal run by Kent State to give the Golden Flashes an 8-3 advantage at the 13:48 mark – their biggest lead of the game.
Lighting a spark, the Penguins rattled off five consecutive goals to even the scoreboard at eight apiece with 7:02 remaining in the first half of play. Vaudry (2), Clark, Carter and Miller found the back of the net during the stretch. After a two-goal answer by Kent State, YSU netted four unanswered goals by Lindsey (2), Clark and Abby Yesko to end the half with a two-goal lead.
The Golden Flashes scored the first five goals of the second half to take the lead over the Penguins 15-12, however YSU answered with a hat trick of its own with goals by Yesko, Carter and Miller to deadlock the scoreboard at 15 with just over 20 minutes to play.
Kent State added a goal at the 20:12 mark regain the lead for the final time in the contest. In the final 20 minutes of action from Dix Stadium, Youngstown state would score the final 8-of-12 goals. Five different Penguins would score during the stretch, including Lindsey, Chang and Clark who would score twice. The Golden Flashes scored the final goal of the game with :26 seconds remaining, to bring the final score to 23-20.
YSU put 33-of-44 shot attempts on goal (75 percent) during the contest and also went 20-25 on clear attempts (80 percent) during the game.

Youngstown State welcomes Robert Morris (10-2, 6-0 MAC) to Farmers National Bank Field in the final home game of the season. First-draw is slated for 1 p.m. next Saturday. The game will act as Senior Day for Elicia Wells.
In the first contest between the two schools on April, the Colonials edged the Penguins at Joe Walton Stadium, 17-7.
