Box Score The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team (1-6, 1-6 MAC) fell 24-12 to Mid-American Conference foe Detroit Mercy (2-2, 2-2 MAC) at Farmers National Bank Field Saturday, earning a season split of one game apiece with the Titans.
Erin Clark boasted a season-high four scores on the season on eight shots on goal, scoring two free-position and two unassisted goals on the day. The Montrose, N.Y. native also added an assist and two ground balls to the Saturday stat line.
Aryss Lindsey and Emma Carter also added multi-score games during the clash with the Titans, each finding the back of the net twice. Four other Penguins contributed to the twelve-goal mark, each adding an individual goal (Abby Yesko, Jordan Miller, Callie Vaudry, Taylor Jones). YSU accumulated 27 shots on goal in the game.
Three Penguins (Tristan Chang, Erin Clark, Jordan Miller) tallied multiple ground balls, tying a team-high for YSU. The Penguins grabbed 11 in the contest.
Jocelyn Fike highlighted the YSU effort in draw controls, tabbing an individual-best five controls on the day. Ultimately, the Penguins were outgained in draw controls, 24-14.
Mikaela Staranko made her season debut in the cage in the second half for the Guins. Staranko posted one save on 10 shots faced during her 30-minute outing. Senior Elicia Wells started in goal for YSU, adding seven saves of her own.
Following an quick strike by Taylor Jones with 28:41 remaining in the first half, giving Youngstown State the 1-0 advantage, Detroit Mercy would rattle off a stretch of four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead.
At the 20:29 mark, Erin Clark would score the first of her four goals on the day to bring the Titans' lead to two goals. However, Detroit Mercy would answer with three goals of its own to stretch the margin to five over YSU.
Midway through the opening half, Jordan Miller would score her lone goal of the day, upping her season total to seven and bring the score to back to 7-3. Answering once again, the Titans would add a trio of goals to increase their lead to seven.
Off a free-position shot, Emma Carter added the first of a pair of goals on the afternoon at the 11:33 mark before Detroit Mercy would add five of its own to take an 11-goal lead. The teams traded a pair of goals before heading into the halftime locker rooms, with 16-5 in favor of the Titans on the scoreboard.
Out of the half, YSU found a bit of life as Erin Clark and Emma Carter find the back of the net. Rattled, Detroit Mercy came back with a three-goal stretch of their own to snag a 12-goal lead.
Erin Clark and Callie Vaudry would add a couple goals off a pair of free-position shots at the 22:12 and 20:05-minute marks, respectively.
After trading another duo of goals, the Titans would go on their third three-goal run of the contest to jump out to a 24-10 advantage – their biggest lead of the game.
Aryss Lindsey had eyes for the cage in the final three minutes of play, closing out the game scoring a goal off an assist from Erin Clark (3:07) and a free-position attempt (1:14).
