Box Score The Youngtown State women's lacrosse team (1-3, 1-3 MAC) dropped a hard-fought contest to Mid-American Conference and in-state rival Kent State (3-5, 2-1 MAC) Sunday, 19-10.
The YSU offense saw five different scorers on the day, including four with multi-goal performances. Jordan Miller tallied a team-best hat trick performance on six shots while adding an assist and two ground balls. Emma Carter, Jocelyn Fike and Taylor Jones each scored two goals for the Penguins with Erin Clark adding a solo goal.
Clark and Lauren Ottensmeyer tied for a team-high three ground balls apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Elicia Wells logged another 60-minute outing in the cage, posting a match-high 11 saves on 35 Golden Flashes' shots.
Madison Rapier scored a match-high five goals for the Golden Flashes, while Kenzie Sklar (3), Jackie Wolford (3), Abby Jones (3), Kelli Bailey (2), Morgan Kubicki (1), Lexi Piekarski (1) and Allison Kortowich (1) also added goals for Kent State.
Following a quiet first ten minutes of the opening half with each squad only finding the back of the net once, the Golden Flashes surged out to 6-1 lead, scoring five unanswered goals across a four-minute period.
Battling back, Miller scored two quick goals to bring the Kent State lead to three. Ottensmeyer and Jones assisted on the scores. Ottensmeyer had a team-best two assists on the contest. Kent State would end the half on a 4-1 run over YSU, taking the 10-4 advantage into the halftime locker room.
Just over 90 ticks into the second half, Jones added her second goal on the season with being credited the Abby Yesko. After a Golden Flashes goal, Jones tallied her second goal of the game with 26:05 remaining on the clock.
The Penguins would add four more scores before the end of the contest – Fike (18:54, 12:10), Carter (18:28) and Miller (13:47).
Youngstown State is back in action April 3 against Robert Morris (7-2, 3-0 MAC). The Colonials currently sit atop the MAC standings. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
