
Three Place in Top 10 as Penguins Win Nevel Meade Collegiate

Three Penguins placed in the top 10 as the Youngstown State women's golf team earned a 12-stroke victory in the Nevel Meade Collegiate on Tuesday at Nevel Meade Golf Course in Prospect, Ky.
YSU's Red Team posted team scores of 298 and 291 in the first two rounds on Monday to seize a 13-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final session. The Penguins closed out the event with a 302 on Tuesday to finish 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Oakland.
YSU's three-round team score of 891 ranks as the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history. The Penguins' second-round 291, which marks a season low, ranks tied for the sixth-lowest 18-hole team score in program history.
Puthita Khuanrudee finished tied for second with a three-round score of 218 (71-76-71). Her three-round 218 ranks tied for the third-lowest 54-hole mark in program history. Khuanrudee's first-round 71, which marks a season low, featured nine pars and five birdies. Her final-round 71 included 10 pars, three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 No. 2.
Katlyn Shutt placed fourth with a three-round 219 (73-72-74). Her 219 ranks as the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in school history. The senior's first-round 73 featured nine pars and five birdies. Shutt's second-round 72, which marked a season low, included 10 pars and four birdies. Her final-round 74 featured 12 pars and a pair of birdies.
Danae Rugola finished tied for fifth with a three-round 223 (76-68-79). The sophomore was atop the leaderboard after two rounds. Her four-under-par 68 in the second round, which marks a career low, ranks tied for the fourth-lowest round in program history. Rugola's second-round 68 featured 10 pars and six birdies.
Christina Lewis finished tied for 22nd with a three-round total of 233 (80-75-78). The sophomore's second-round 75, which matched her low round of the season, featured nine pars and three birdies. Rounding out YSU's Red Team was Jenna Vivo, who placed 58th with a 249 (78-83-88). Vivo's first-round 78 matched her low round of the season.
Youngstown State's White Team placed 11th with a three-round team total of 977. The Penguins recorded rounds of 329 and 317 in the first two rounds on Monday before posting a 331 in the final session on Tuesday.
Leading the White Team was Madie Smithco, who finished tied for 26th with a three-round 235 (80-78-77). Smithco's final-round 77, which marks her season low, featured 12 pars and a birdie on No. 7. Tori Utrup tied for 38th with a three-round score of 240 (80-77-83). Kara Raines carded a three-round 251 (82-84-85) while Britney Jonda notched a 254 (87-81-86). Ally St. Clair finished with a three-round total of 259 (87-81-91).
Amalia Shahzan of Oakland claimed medalist honors by one stroke over Khuanrudee with a three-round 217 (72-73-72).
Youngstown State's Red Team finished ahead of Horizon League members Oakland, IUPUI, Purdue Fort Wayne, Cleveland State, UIC and Northern Kentucky.
The Penguins will continue their spring season on Saturday when they face St. Francis (Pa.) in a dual match at Grand View Golf Club in Braddock, Pa.
