Men Finish Second, Women Third at League Championship Meet

CARMEL, Ind. - Sophomore Hunter Christopher and junior Morgan Cole post a pair of top-3 individual marks to lead the Youngstown State cross country teams to top-three finishes at the Horizon League Cross Country Championships.
Christopher posted a 25:42 en route to the runner-up individual finish. The men's program scored 59 points to earn the second-place nod and finished 29 points behind IUPUI with 30.
After Christopher, the men posted four top-20 finishes, including one more in the top-10. Sophomore Tyler Clark was next to cross the finish line for YSU, posting a 26:11 and finishing in ninth. The senior-duo of Derek Basinger (26:26) and Ethan Sparks (26:28) went 15 and 16 for the Guins, and Ty Coon (26:32.2) was the final scorer, taking 17th-place with his run.
Sophomore Ryan Meadows turned in a time of 26:53.4 to finish 25th and Chase Easterling recorded a 26:54.3 for 27th-place.
Carlos Cabrera of UIC led the pack in the men's race, clocking a 25:36.8 to earn the gold-medal finish.
The YSU women followed suit to their preseason projection, finishing third as a team (70 points) while placing three runners in the top-20 and two more among the top-25 finishers. Cole led the Penguins' effort, placing third individually with a time of 22:35.4 in the 6000m race.
Just behind, senior Nicole Squatrito posted her best finish of the season, running a 23:22.1 to finish eighth and just edged out teammate and fellow senior Maggie Sebest (23:32.7), who posted a 13th-place effort. Second-year Penguin Julia Magliocca acted as the next Penguins' finisher with a time of 23:51.1, finishing 21st.
Senior Ashleigh Rowley rounded out the scoring bunch with a 25th-place finish (23:55.9). After, Natalie Fleming (23:59.7) and Karissa Sonneberger (24:04.6) placed 26th and 28th, respectively, out of 103 runners competing.
Wright State's Abigail Halsey (22:10.6) and Milwaukee's Mikayla Fox (22:22.8) set the pace for the field, taking the top two spots in the race.
