Efficient Offense Keys Volleyball's 3-1 Win Over IUPUI

The Youngstown State volleyball team hit a season-high .272 and had five players reach double digits in digs in a 3-1 victory over IUPUI on Sunday. The set scores at Beeghly Center were 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20.
Paula Gursching led the Penguins with 18 kills, and Nadia Pace had 10 kills on .409 attack percentage. Lexie Beeke had 40 assists, Josi Borum posted three aces and Reilly Seagroves registered 22 digs.
IUPUI's Briana Brown had a match-high 21 kills, and Addie Brown had 25 digs to lead all players.
The Penguins hit higher than .310 in each of their set wins. Meanwhile, the defense forced the Jaguars to drop in attack percentage in each set, going from .316 in the first to .083 in the fourth.
YSU led 10-5 early in the first and extended the advantage to seven five times on its way to the 25-22 win.
IUPUI opened the second set with a 4-1 lead, and the visitors remained ahead until a late Penguin run. YSU trailed 21-18 but scored the final seven points of the set after a timeout. IUPUI had four attack errors during the stretch.
The Penguins jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set, but IUPUI scored eight of the next 10 points and did not trail again. In the fourth, Youngstown State led 9-2 and stayed ahead by at least six until 23-18.
YSU will play nine of its next 10 matches on the road, beginning with a contest at Wright State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
