
Penguins Fall in Three at Wright State

The Youngstown State volleyball team caught fire with a .370 attack percentage in the third set, but the Penguins couldn't slow down Wright State's offense in a 3-0 loss to the Raiders on Tuesday evening. The set scores from C.J. McLin Gymnasium were 25-19, 25-11, 25-19.
Cheyenne Hlady and Isidora Sisic had seven kills apiece while hitting a combined .306, and Paula Gursching registered six kills. Hlady added a match-high three blocks, Josi Borum had a team-high 12 assists, and Gursching was the leader in digs with 12.
Wright State hit .320 for the match, including a blistering .448 in the third set to counter the Penguins. The Raiders had just four fewer attack errors than the Penguins, but WSU registered 14 more kills and four more aces.
Megan Alders had a match-best nine kills, and Jenna Story posted 19 digs to lead the Raiders.
The Penguins led 16-14 in the opening set following a kill by Nadia Pace, but Wright State flipped the momentum with a 5-0 run that grew to a larger 11-3 spurt to end the set. The Raiders then scored the final 10 points of the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Wright State built a 17-9 lead in the third set, but the Penguins continued to battle and climbed to within 19-16 to force a timeout. Amanda Lebioda, Hlady, Pace and Gursching each had points during that 7-2 run.
Sisic had four of her kills in the third set, and the Penguins combined for 12 kills and just two errors in 27 attempts. YSU, though, had five of its nine serving errors of the night in the third set.
Youngstown State will play at Robert Morris on Friday at 6 p.m.
