
Borum Posts 12 Kills in 3-0 Loss at Green Bay

The Youngstown State volleyball team dropped the first match of its three-game road trip in three sets at Green Bay on Thursday night. The set scores at the Kress Center were 25-17, 25-14, 25-23.
Penguin right-side hitter Josi Borum posted a match-high 12 kills in just 21 attempts, and she did not have an error for an impressive .571 attack percentage. Paula Gursching added seven kills but was forced into seven errors. Aimee Beaupre provided a lift off the bench in the third set with three blocks and three kills, and Lexie Beeke had team highs of nine digs and 26 assists.
Tiffany Paalman led Green Bay offensively with 11 kills, while Rylee Boyd had nine. Alexandra Zakutney posted five of the Phoenix's five aces.
The Penguins matched the Phoenix in blocks with five, but YSU couldn't keep up with Green Bay on the offensive end. The Phoenix had 11 more kills and five fewer attack errors, and they held a .352-.186 edge in attack percentage.
Green Bay hit .429 in the opening set and .500 in the second set as it built a 2-0 lead. YSU led 5-1 early in the second set, and the Penguins' deficit was 11-10 following an attack error by Green Bay's Cora Behnke. The Phoenix did not have an attack error the rest of the set as they went on a 14-4 run.
Green Bay led 6-1 and 7-2 early in the third, but the Penguins didn't back down and took the lead at 13-12 on a block by Beaupre and Borum. A kill by Beaupre put YSU ahead 21-18, but the Phoenix closed the match on a 7-2 run. Youngstown State's final lead was 22-21 on a Borum kill, and Green Bay countered with four straight kills.
The Penguins will be back in action on Friday as they take on UIC in Chicago at 7 p.m. Eastern. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
