Catching Up With Junior Dylan Carpenter

Junior Dylan Carpenter (Criminal Justice/Maineville, Ohio) gives YSUsports.com an update in this Q&A session.

Why did you choose to come to Youngstown State?

I chose to come to Youngstown State because it felt like home. My coaches and teammates took me in as one of their own right away.

How did you get started in your sport? / Where did your passion for your sport originate?

I started when I was four years old on a tee-ball field. My love for baseball began in the backyard with my dad.

Who or what has been the biggest influence or inspiration during your athletic career?

My parents have been the biggest influence, having them by my side on travel and everything else.

Did you have a favorite athlete or team that inspired you growing up? – If so, what athlete or team and why?

My favorite athlete was Derek Jeter. He played for the Yankees and he was my favorite because he was always a leader on and off the field and I try to do that.

What has been your favorite part about being a student-athlete at YSU?

My favorite part about being a student-athlete at YSU is definitely getting to spend bonding time with the boys.

What is your favorite memory or moment during your time at YSU?

My favorite memory is definitely beating Houston.

Do you have a favorite place or venue that you've traveled to or competed at during your time at YSU?

Texas was a great experience, I loved playing there.

What are your plans and goals after graduation?

My plan is to work in the FBI and help people in need.

What would be your advice to other student-athletes in terms of managing athletics and academics?

Just balance it out and go to study tables as much as needed to get help.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of your sport?

I love to work and hang out with friends.

What was your reaction when you found out the season was coming to an end?

I was heartbroken when I found out, it was like a dream.

What do you miss most about being around the team and playing your sport?

I miss competing every day and having the good memories and talks with everyone.

What have you learned throughout this whole situation? How has it changed your perspective on things?

I have learned to be grateful for how good we truly have it. When you get kicked down, you have to respond by making the best of it and get back up.

What are your personal and team goals for next season?

To be the best version of me possible.
