Nikki Saibene Ties Two Records in 15-10 Loss to Canisius

Boiling Springs, N.C. -- Junior Nikki Saibene tied two single-game records with five hits and three doubles, but the Youngstown State softball team dropped a 15-10 decision to Canisius on Sunday.
With the loss, the Penguins fall to 3-2 on the season.
Saibene went 5-for-5 with three doubles and three runs batted in while senior Maddi Lusk went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Sophomore Grace Cea also tallied two hits while Alex DeLeon drove in a pair of runs.
The Golden Griffins scored three runs in the top of the first while the Penguins added runs in the bottom of the second and third to cut the lead to 3-2.
Canisius used a six-run fourth inning to expand the lead to 9-2 and three more in the fifth to take a 12-2 lead.
The Penguins added four runs in the bottom half of the fifth to cut the lead in half, 12-6, but Canisius scored twice more in the sixth and once more in the seventh.
Youngstown State is back in action, Feb. 21-23, at the 2020 Pirate Classic hosted by Hampton University.
