Hot-Shooting Phoenix Defeat Men's Basketball, 102-92

Green Bay, Wis. - Five players scored in double figures, but it was not enough to stop a hot-shooting Green Bay team as the Youngstown State men's baskektball team fell to the Phoenix, 102-92, on Thursday evening at the Resch Center.
The Penguins fall to 16-14 overall and 9-8 in the Horizon League while the Phoenix improve to 15-15 overall and 10-7 in the league.
Sophomore Darius Quisenberry led the Penguins with 29 points and five assists while junior Michael Akucie had 17 points and seven rebounds. Junior Naz Bohannon scord 15 points with eight boards and Geoff Hamperian and Donel Cathcart III added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Six players scored in double figures for the Phoenix, who shot 55.7 percent from the field, led by JayQuan McCloud's 23 points. Kameron Hankerson scored 17 points with three 3-pointers, Ameri Davis scored 15, Manny Patterson had 14 points, PJ Pipes poured in 13 and Trevian Bell added 10 points.
The Penguins and Phoenix battled through eight lead changes and four ties through the first 12 and a half minutes and the Penguins led 26-22 after a 3-pointer by Cathcart with 7:35 to go. The Phoenix went on a 6-0 run t the take a 28-26 lead before a basket by Bohannon knotted the game at 28-28 with 5:07 left before halftime.
Green Bay, which made its last nine field goals of the first half, pushed its lead to four but Akuchie hit a 3-pointer to get within one, 32-31, and Devin Morgan made a basket to get to within two, 35-33, with 2:07 left.
The Phoenix outscored the Penguins, 8-5, to close out the first half with a 43-38 lead.
In the second half, the Phoenix built their lead to as many as 18 points, 81-63, with 8:16 to go. Over the next four minutes, the Penguins mounted a charge and whittled the deficit to nine, 92-83, after a 20-11 run. YSU would not get any closer.
The Penguins close out the regular season against Milwaukee, Saturday, Feb. 29, at 8 p.m.
