Morgan's Late 3-Pointer Lifts Penguins Past Milwaukee, 73-69

Milwaukee, Wis. -- Senior Devin Morgan hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining and the Penguins made three out of four free throws down the stretch as the Youngstown State men's basketball team came back to defeat Milwaukee, 73-69, on Saturday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
The Penguins improve to 17-14 overall and tie school record for most league wins with a 10-8 Horizon League mark. The Panthers fall to 12-18 overall and 7-11 in league play. Youngstown State garnered the fifth-seed in the 2020 Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship and will host the eighth-seed Milwaukee, Tuesday, March 3. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Beeghly Center.
Down three, 69-66, with 1:09 to go, junior Naz Bohannon split a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to two, and sophomore Darius Quisenberry drew an offensive foul on Milwaukee's Te'Jon Lucas with 50 seconds remaining. Morgan's hit his third 3-pointer of the night from the top of the key to give the Penguins a one-point lead.
On the following possession, Quisenberry stripped the ball from Darius Roy and Bohannon picked up the loose ball and converted two free throws to push the Penguins lead to 72-69 with 12 seconds left.
Milwaukee's DeAndre Abram's game-tying 3-point attempt was short and Donel Cathcart III grabbed the rebound, was fouled and split a pair of charity tosses with 1.7 seconds left to seal the victory.
Quisenberry led the Penguins with 24 points, including 15 in the second half, while junior Garrett Covington scored 16 points with six rebounds and Morgan added 11 points.
Trailing most of the game and down 11 in the first half, the Penguins tied the game at 53-53 on a 3-pointer by Quisenberry, and took their first lead, 55-53, since being up 2-0 after two free throws by Michael Akuchie.
The Panthers tied the game at 55-55 but Morgan's second 3-pointer of the game regained the lead for the Penguins with 9:48 left.
YSU built its lead to four on three occasions and led 64-60 on a jumper by Akuchie. Over the next 2:37, the Panthers went on an 8-0 to take a 68-64 lead before Bohannon scored his first points of the game to get within 68-66 at the 1:50 mark,
A free throw by Abram with 1:40 remaining would be the last points the Panthers would score.
The Penguins, who shot 57.1 percent from the field in the second half, had a tough first half connecting on just 30 percent from the field. Fortunately, the Penguins stayed in the game by making 11 of 14 free-throw attempts in before halftime.
