Houston, Texas – Freshman Andre Good hit two home runs and had four RBIs to lead the Youngstown State baseball team to a come-from-behind 8-6 victory in 10 innings and the series win over Houston on Sunday at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.

The Penguins win their second straight game to improve to 2-1 for the first time since the 2001 season. The Cougars, who were No. 35 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason rankings, fall to 1-2 and drop their second straight contest. The two teams played extra innings for the second straight day after YSU beat UH 6-3 in 11 innings in game two of the series on Saturday night.

Youngstown State trailed 6-2 going into the ninth inning before it received some late-inning heroics from a pair of freshmen playing in their first collegiate game. After Steven D'Eusanio and Padraig O'Shaughnessy hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning, Braeden O'Shaughnessy delivered a three-run blast to left center field that pulled the Penguins within a run. Good then followed with his second homer of the contest, this one a solo shot to left center, to even the game at 6-6.

After D'Eusanio began the top of the 10th with another leadoff single, Nick Caruso reached on a fielder's choice and Braeden O'Shaughnessy followed with a bunt single to load the bases with nobody out. Good then came through clutch again, this time with a two-run single up the middle, that proved to be the game-winning hit.

Houston got the potential game-tying run to the plate in bottom of the 10th, but Dalton Earich got Ian McMillan to strike out swinging to end the game. Earich was awarded the victory after allowing one hit over 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. Four YSU relievers combined to hold Houston to just one hit and no runs over the final seven frames.

Jon Snyder did not allow a hit and had two strikeouts over four innings while Bryce Warwick also did not allow a hit and struck out a pair in the first 1.1 innings of his career. Joel Hake retired the only batter he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Penguins outhit the Cougars 11-5 as Good went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs in his first-career game. D'Eusanio and Braeden O'Shaughnessy each had two hits and O'Shaughnessy collected three RBIs with this three-run homer in the ninth. 

UH put the long ball to use once again as it scored five of its six runs on home runs. Ryan Hernandez's two-run blast in the bottom of the first put the Cougars in front early and Steven Rivas' three-run blast in the third pushed their advantage to five. YSU went on to score the final seven runs of the game as it plated one in fifth, four in the ninth and two in the 10th. The Penguins had two hits over the first two innings, but had just two more until the top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the first inning, Tyler Bielamowicz drew a one-out walk and stole second before Hernandez hit a two-run home run down the left field line to put the Cougars ahead 2-0. YSU responded in the top of the second inning as Good hit the first pitch of his first-career at-bat over the wall in right field for a solo homer that pulled the Penguins within a run.

The Cougars added to their advantage with four runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning. Brad Burckel, who reached with a leadoff single, scored on a fielder's choice before Rivas hit a three-run homer to right field that pushed the Houston lead to 6-1.

The Penguins cut the Cougars' lead to 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning as Good drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a groundout and scored on an RBI single by Turner Grau. Three true freshmen combined to drive in all eight of YSU's runs in the contest.

YSU starter Travis Perry allowed six runs on four hits and struck out three over three innings of work in a no-decision.

Houston starter Jared Pettitte, the son of former New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, surrendered two runs on three hits and fanned four batters over 4.1 innings. UH reliever Tanner Green, who retired 10 straight batters at one point, allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three over 3.2 innings. Spencer Hynes was responsible for three runs on three hits over one inning in a losing effort while Isaiah Blaylock worked a scoreless inning.

The Penguins will be back in action this Friday, Feb. 21, to begin a three-game series at College of Charleston. First pitch from the Baseball Stadium at Patriots Point is set for 4 p.m. ET.
