Penguins Fall Twice at Towson Invitational

The Youngstown State volleyball team dropped both of its matches in straight sets at the Towson Invitational on Friday at SECU Arena. The Penguins fell to the host Tigers in their first match of the day, and they dropped a three-setter shortly after to UAlbany as they played in consecutive matches at the tournament.
Aleah Hughes was YSU's top attacker on the day with 17 kills in the two matches.
YSU will take on Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 11 a.m. in its final match at the Towson Invitational. The contest will be streamed live on FloVolleyball.tv.
Match 1 vs. Towson
Towson took big leads early in the first two sets and controlled the match to defeat Youngstown State in straight sets. The scores were 25-16, 25-8, 25-8.
Aleah Hughes had seven kills in 26 attempts, and Ellie Cox came off the bench to register three kills in nine swings to lead the Penguins.
Towson had 9.5 blocks as a team while also hitting .420 collectively on offense. Four Tigers had at least six kills, and Lydia Wiers had six kills and seven blocks.
Match 2 vs. UAlbany
YSU held a 41-37 edge over UAlbany in kills, but the Penguins had 13 more attack errors than the Great Danes in the 3-0 loss. The set scores were 25-22, 25-15, 25-23.
Hughes had 10 terminations in 24 attempts, and Alexia Byrnes matched her career high with nine kills. The sophomore setter also posted 23 assists and two aces, and Margaux Thompson notched 14 digs.
Akuabata Okenwa had 12 kills on a .524 attack percentage to lead UAlbany.
