First Pitch
The Youngstown State softball team (20-20, 8-2 Horizon League) returns to action with a three-game Horizon League series against Wright State, April 16-17. The Penguins and Raiders will play a doubleheader, Tuesday, at 3 p.m. and a single game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. All three games will be played at the Covelli Sports Complex.
Gameday Promotions
On April 16, the YSU Athletic Department will have a Pete the Penguin Photo Day and will be giving away YSU Mousepad. A YSU Softball T-Shirt Giveaway is the promotional giveaway on April 17.

The Penguins visit Northern Kentucky, April 23, in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. and April 24 in a single game at 2 p.m. in Highland Heights, Ky.
About Wright State
The Raiders enter the series with an overall record of 16-25 and a 3-9 mark in the Horizon League. Wright State also owns a record of 4-13 in away games. Leading the Raiders is Raidyn Johnson with a .353 batting average and Rebekah Lenos with a .339 avergage. Olivia Otani leads the pitching staff with a 6-13 record.
Penguins Like Late Leads
Youngstown State has been successful when owning a lead after the fourth inning. The Penguins are 19-0 when leading after four innings, 16-0 when leading after five and 17-0 when leading after six innings.
Home Cooking
The Penguins have been a tough team to beat when playing at the Covelli Sports Complex. Youngstown State owns an 11-1 home record and has won 11 straight at home. Sophomore Yamine Romero leads the offense with a .405 batting average during those 11 straight home wins. Addy Jarvis owns a 5-0 record with a 1.62 earned-run average and 56 strikeouts while Elle Buffenbarger is 4-0 with a 1.81 ERA.
Penguins at .500
For the first time this season Youngstown State has reached a .500 record at 20-20. The Penguins have won 16 of the last 19 games to reach that point. During that time, junior Maddi Lusk (14 games) batted .341 with five doubles, three home runs and a slugging percentage of .683. Freshman Grace Cea batted .323 with 17 runs scored, six doubles four home runs, 20 RBIs and .613 slugging percentage. Elle Buffenbarger is 5-0 with a .242 earned-run average while Addy Jarvis is 7-2 with 87 strikeouts in 59 innings.
Geanangel Thriving In League Play
Senior Paige Geanangel is pitching her best when she's facing league opponents. Geanangel owns a 3-0 record with a 0.97 earned-run average and her opponents are batting .160.
Zap Attack
Senior Lexi Zappitelli has been a tough out for Horizon League pitchers this season. Zappitelli leads the Penguins with a .385 batting average in league play and has scored seven runs. Overall, Zappitelli leads the team with a .306 batting average.
Penguins Set Consecutive Win Record
Youngstown State broke a 15-year-old record by winning 11 consecutive games from March 20 through April 3. The old record of 10 was set in 2004.
Jarvis Set Single-Game Ks Record, Among Tops in HL
Freshman Addy Jarvis set the Youngstown State single-game strikeout record with a career-high 15 Ks against Niagara on April 3. She is also making her mark as one of the top pitchers in the Horizon League. She is second in the league lead with 10 wins, 13 complete games and 152 strikeouts. She is tied for the league lead with five shutouts and ranks third 2.57 ERA. Her 152 strikeouts also rank third on the YSU single-season list.
