Penguins Pick Up 70-64 Win at UIC on Monday Night

Chicago, Ill. -- Sophomore Darius Quisenberry scored a game-high 20 points and junior Naz Bohannon posted his third double-double of the year to lead the Youngstown State men's basketball team to a 70-64 win over UIC on Monday night at Credit Union 1 Arena.
The Penguins, who led for more than 34 minutes, improve to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League while the Flames fall to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Junior Michael Akuchie also reached double figures with 10 points while Donel Cathcart III posted eight points with six rebounds.
Leading the Flames was Godwin Boahen with 15 points and Braelen Brigdes with 10 points.
After five lead changes and a pair of ties through the first 11 minutes, the Penguins led for the final 29 minutes.
Leading 21-20, Youngstown State scored eight straight points on buckets by Cathcart and Bohannon and two free throws by Quisenberry and another basket by sophomore Jelani Simmons to go up 29-203:31 left before halftime.
The Flames scored six straight to get within three, 29-26, before Jamir Thomas' layup gave YSU a 31-26 lead at halftime.
The Penguins pushed their lead to 12, 42-30, within the first 5:08 in the second half. Up 31-28, the Penguins went on a 14-2 run in a four minute span fo the 12-point advantage. During the run, Quisenberry, Cathcart and Bohannon each had two baskets while junior Garrett Covington also added a score.
The Flames rallied to get within four, 48-44, at the 9:37 mark, but Bohannon led the Penguins to five straight points to extend the YSU lead to nine, 53-44, with 6:55 to go.
Youngstown State's last made field goal came at the 4:44 mark, a Quisenberry layup but the Penguins made 13 of their final 16 free throws to seal the win.
The Penguins visit Cleveland State, Saturday, Jan. 4, at 3 p.m.
