Men's Basketball Knocks Off SEMO, 65-50, Calhoun Earns 150th Career Win

Youngstown State shot 51 percent from the floor, including, 65.2 percent in the first half, en route to a 65-50 win over Southeast Missouri State on Sunday evening at Beeghly Center.
With the win, the Penguins improve to 6-5 overall and 5-0 at Beeghly Center, and Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun earned the 150th win of his career. With the loss, SEMO falls to 3-7.
Leading the Penguins was junior Naz Bohannon with 14 points and nine rebounds while sophomore Darius Quisenberry added 12 points with five rebounds, and four assists. All 10 YSU players that saw action scored against the Redhawks.
Darrious Agnew led the Redhawks with 17 points and Isaiah Gable added 10 points.
Youngstonwn State made 10 of its first 14 field-goal attempts to jump out to a 25-11 lead with 8:08 left in the first half. Michael Akuchie hit a 3-pointer at the 3:11 mark to push the YSU lead to 17 points, 33-18, and, after a SEMO basket, converted a fast-break layup to reestablish the 17-point advantage, 35-19, with 1:35 left. The Penguins went into the lockerroom with a 14-point lead, 38-24.
Within the first six minutes of the second half, the Penguins bolstered their lead to 22 points, 51-29, after a 13-5 run. Quisenberry scored the first five points of the run followed by baskets by Akuchie, junior Garrett Covington, sophomore Jelani Simmons and senior Donel Cathcart III.
YSU held a 22-point lead, 59-37, 9:13 left, but scored just six points and made only one field goal the rest of the way.
Youngstown State hosts Binghamton, Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Beeghly Center. Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m.
