Cross Country

Cross Country Teams Make Solid Showing at Duquesne Duals

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country team each turned in solid performances at the season-opening Duquesne Duals at Schenley Park.

Leading the men's team was sophomore Derek Bassinger, placed 19th with a time of 27:07.67. Freshman Ethan Sparks ran a 27:13.06 to finish in 20th while sophomore C.J. Schumacher placed 21st with a time of 27:20.28.

Freshmen Matthew Mangus and Chris Butler finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively, with times of 27:34.94 and 27:38.48.

Senior Jennifer Muhlenkamp paced the women's team with a time of 19:45.97 and finished 18th. Freshman Charlotte Crouch placed 22nd with a time of 20:02.36 while sophomore Xena Maali was 27th with a time of 20:23.99.

Sophomore Raquel Markulen turned in a time of 20:30.49 to place 29th and freshman Kasey Zaitzew recorded a time of 20:35.33 and finished 30th. Freshman Emma Hunkus ran a 21:00.87 to finish 35th.

The Penguins will run at the Tommy Evans Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 8, in Akron, Ohio.
