Penguins Go 2-1 on Final Day, Finish Crusader Classic in Sixth Place

The Youngstown State bowling team won two of its three matches on Sunday afternoon and finished the Crusader Classic in sixth place. The event was hosted by Valparaiso at Lakewood Bowl in Richton Park, Ill.
The 24th-ranked Penguins began the day with a 971-859 victory over No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater to conclude the traditional team match round that began on Saturday. Youngstown State then defeated Elmhurst 4-2 in its first bracket match, and YSU fell in five games to No. 13 Tulane in its final bout of the weekend. The Penguins fell by seven pins, 208-201, in game two, and they lost 191-190 in game four.
Alexis Grim built on a strong Saturday with a 201 against Wisconsin-Whitewater and finished seventh overall in the individual standings. She finished eight pins out of out qualifying for the all-tournament team, and she was 29 pins behind the individual tournament champion. Nikki Mendez placed 20th in the individual stadnings, and Rachel Darrow closed out her weekend with her best game of the tournament, 223.
Youngstown State's next competition will be at the Hawk Flight Invite in two weeks. The event will be hosted by Monmouth at King Pin Lanes in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
