
Bowling Beats Two Top 15 Teams in Day Two at Stormin' Ladyjack Classic

The Youngstown State bowling team beat two teams ranked in the top 15 as part of a three-win day at the Stormin' Ladyjack Classic on Saturday. The tournament is being held at Copperfield Bowl in Houston, Texas.
The 24th-ranked Penguins went 3-2 in their five traditional team matches in the second day of the competition. YSU began the day with a 997-857 win over No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, which is the tournament's host. The 997 score for YSU was its highest this season for a traditional match. The Penguins followed that up with a 950-878 win over No. 13 Tulane, and YSU later defeated Southern 895-821. YSU's losses came to Louisiana Tech (933-860) and No. 5 Vanderbilt (1,113-921).
Nikki Mendez was the top individual finisher for the Penguins on Saturday with an average of 192.80 in her five games. That earned her a 42nd-place finish in the field. Ashley Kolb averaged 189.80 to place 46th, which was one spot ahead of teammate Rachel Darrow, who averaged 188.80. They were the only three Penguins who bowled in all five matches. Mackenzie Olesky had YSU's highest game of the day with a 232 against Stephen F. Austin.
Youngstown State will enter bracket play on Sunday in 14th place after posting 9,326 pins in the 10 Baker and traditional matches on Friday and Saturday. The Penguins will face North Carolina A&T in the first match on Sunday, and YSU's final finish will be between 11th and 16th based on Sunday's results. Bracket play will begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern.
