Bowling Sits 12th After Baker Round in Houston

The Youngstown State bowling team earned one victory and finished 12th in total pins in the first day of the Stormin' Ladyjack Classic at Copperfield Bowl in Houston, Texas.
The Penguins went 1-4 in Baker matches on the day with a 1,006-888 win over Jackson State in the first match of the tournament. YSU then had losses to No. 19 Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, No. 4 Sam Houston State and No. 1 Nebraska.
YSU finished the day with 4,703 pins in its 25 Baker games for an average of 188.1. That puts the Penguins in 12th place ahead of five ranked teams and two more teams that received votes in February's NTCA Top 25 Poll.
Youngstown State will bowl against No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 13 Tulane, Louisiana Tech and Southern on Saturday in five traditional matches. The first match of the day will be at 10:25 a.m. Eastern against Stephen F. Austin, which is the tournament host and the defending national champion.
