Bowling Beats Two Ranked Teams on Day Two, Enters Bracket Play in 12th Place

The Youngstown State bowling team defeated a pair of ranked opponents as part of a three-win second day at the KU Invitational at Hiester Lanes in Reading, Pa.
The Penguins earned victories over No. 11 Sacred Heart and No. 21 Saint Francis Brooklyn, and their other win came over host Kutztown, which received votes in the most-recent NTCA Top 25 poll. Youngstown State's highest team score of the day came in its first match, a 975-882 win over Kutztown. The Penguins followed that with a 955 in a 20-pin win over Sacred Heart, and the Penguins had a 960 in the win over Saint Francis Brooklyn. YSU's three losses were to No. 19 Saint Francis U, No. 13 LIU Brooklyn and No. 17 Franklin Pierce.
Individually, Rachel Darrow totaled 1,241 pins in Youngstown State's six matches for an average of 206.83. That was the 11th-highest total out of 166 bowlers who competed on Saturday. Emily Dietz ranked 45th with a six-game average of 188.83, and Alexis Grim averaged 181.50 to place 61st.
Youngstown State enters Sunday's bracket play in 12th place and will square off with No. 18 Adelphi to start the day. YSU will bowl three matches in a best-of-seven Baker format and can move up to ninth in the final standings with three victories. Play will begin at 8:25 a.m.
