Softball Seeks to Stay In Contention With Three-Game Series at Green Bay

The Youngstown State softball team (21-16, 8-5 Horizon League) looks to stay near the top of the Horizon League standings when it takes on league foe Green Bay in a three-game series, April 22-23, in Green Bay, Wis. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m. EDT.
The Penguins are coming off a 3-3 performance last week after winning the season series at Cleveland State and dropping the season series to Wright State. The Penguins defeated the Raiders, 9-2, but fell 3-2 and 2-1.
Green Bay (15-24, 6-5 Horizon League) is coming off an impressive series win over UIC earlier this week. The Phoenix defeated the Flames, 9-8 and 3-0. The Phoenix dropped the middle game, 10-4.
Campbell Nearing Coaching Milestones
Youngstown State Head Coach Brian Campbell has 446 career victories and 161 at Youngstown State. He needs four more to move into second place on the YSU coaching wins list and four more to reach 450 for his career. Campbell currently ranks third at YSU with 161 victories.
Jersey Shore
Junior Maria Lacatena has been one of the Penguins top offensive players this season. Lacatena, a Stanhope, New Jersey, native, is batting a career-best .340 with six home runs and 30 RBIs. Lacatena has also reached base in the last 15 games, which is the second-longest streak this season. Alex Gibson reached base in the Penguins first 16 games of the season.
It's Brittney
Junior Brittney Moffatt has found her stroke recently. Over the last nine games, Moffatt is batting .400 (12-for-30) with five doubles, two home runs, and five RBIs. She is also slugging .767 during the same span.
Dowd Joins 20-100 Club
Junior Sarah Dowd recently joined a pretty exclusive club in the annals of Youngstown State softball. She became just the third player in school history with at least 20 home runs and 100 runs scored. Dowd ranks tied for third with 24 career home runs and tied for fourth with 102 runs scored. Senior Miranda Castiglione joined the club earlier this season, and the only other player with at least 20 home runs and 100 runs scored was Haley Thomas (2009-12).
Minney Moving Up
Junior pitcher Caitlyn Minney ranks sixth on the YSU career strikeout list with 211 and needs 11 more to move into fifth play. She also needs 89 more to become just the pitcher in school history with at least 300 strikeouts. She has 73 whiffs in 115 innings pitched this season.
Smallcomb is RISP-y
Senior Katie Smallcomb is having a great season at the plate, especially with runners on base and in scoring position. Smallcomb is batting .345 (19-for-55) with runners on base and .417 (15-for-36) with runners in scoring position. With runners on third and less than two outs, Smallcomb is batting a blistering .909 (10-for-11)
