
Valpo Rallies to Beat Volleyball in Four Sets

The Youngstown State volleyball team got 14 kills from Sam Brown and 10 blocks from Lori Vanbeek in a 3-1 loss to Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Center. The set scores were 20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18.
Brown's 14 kills came on 35 swings, and the junior outside hitter had just two errors for a .343 attack percentage. Valparaiso kept YSU's other attackers in check, surrendering 29 kills against 28 errors. The Penguins finished with 14 blocks as a team, with Vanbeek part of 10 and setter Val Jeffery in on six. Aleah Hughes and Lauren Blanco both had 17 digs.
Emily Campbell and Taylor Graboski had 16 kills apiece to lead the Crusaders.
Youngstown State never trailed in the opening set, and the Penguins led after the score was tied 5-5. Valpo led for the majority of the second set after a 4-0 run put it up 11-7, and the Crusaders used an 8-1 run in the third to go up 2-1 in the match.
The Penguins scored the first six points of the fourth set and led 9-1 after a Brown kill. Valpo came back in a flurry with a 17-3 run to go up 18-12, and the Crusaders took the set 25-18.
Youngstown State will play at Oakland on Friday at 7 p.m.
